Yamaha MODX M Has More Of Everything

Yamaha have just released the new MODX M  range - a significant update from MODX+  which is a more budget friendly version of the flagship Montage. One of the big updates is the inclusion of the AN-X virtual analogue engine, as well as the AWM2 and FM-X engines.
On top of that there's more Flash ram for samples with 10GB of AWM2 wave storage and 1.9GB of user wave memory.

There are three models in the new lineup:

• MODX6+ M (61-key)

• MODX7+ M (76-key)

• MODX8+ M (88-key, graded hammer action)

All models in the MODX M series feature increased polyphony, with 128-note stereo AWM2 and 128-note FM-X polyphony (up from 64 and 128 in the original MODX respectively). Yamaha says the FM engine is identical to Montage and fully compatible with DX7 patches, making it useful for users wanting access to classic and modern FM sounds.

The onboard OS has been updated to MONTAGE OS v2.5, which introduces an improved UI, and supports new features like Super Knob control, Motion Sequences, and Seamless Sound Switching (SSS).

According to Yamaha, the physical build has also been upgraded with a more rugged chassis and a refreshed design that includes a new "MODX M" logo and an improved 7-inch colour touchscreen. The MODX8+ M also gets a revised GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) keybed aimed at offering a more authentic piano feel.

A key feature is Expanded Softsynth Plugin (E.S.P.) compatibility - Yamaha's forthcoming VST3/AU plug-in that allows you to fully integrate MODX M into your DAW environment as a plugin instrument.
