The Chromaplane generates it own magnetic fields, rather than generating or synthesizing sounds - you interact with the pickups to cross and combine the electro magnetic fields. The Chrompalane creates 10 magnetic fields, each with it's own oscillation frequency - which is indicated with a dot on the surface. All 10 oscillators are always on, making the instrument polyphonic for melodies chords and drones. More details here....

The Chromaplane is played using two electromagnetic pickup coils, that are moved over its surface to listen to a cloud of electromagnetic fields produced by the instrument. The instrument is fully analog and polyphonic, this makes the instrument ideal for both sculpting complex drones, and playing agile melodies.

Plus there is a 4-pole low pass filter that darkens the instrument's sound, and a lo-fi delay/echo effect for space and ambiance.

Each field can be tuned using its corresponding adjustment screw. A special physical tuner with a complimentary Chromaplane tuning website allows players to explore a curated library of tunings, and save and share their own too.

The Chromaplane is an instrument created in collaboration between KOMA Elektronik & Passepartout Duo.

Our Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded and we are currently producing the first production run.
