Superbooth 2025: Dinsync - NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe

We had a chat with Paul Barker from Dinsync who showed us the NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe, a desktop record cutter aimed at those wanting to press their own music to disc at home. Developed over the past 18 months, the system allows you to cut audio onto soft plastic discs that retain up to 95% of the sound quality of traditional vinyl.

Audio is processed through a typical DAW setup (here using Logic), with plugins like Tokyo Dawn Record Simulator and Waves Q10 used to simulate vinyl characteristics and apply necessary EQ curves. The signal is routed through an SSL 2 interface to a generic amplifier, then onto the lathe's cutting head.

Settings like pitch and head travel are adjustable, and a small vacuum system removes cut material. Environmental conditions such as room temperature and stylus heat also play a part in achieving a clean cut. Turtle Wax is used pre-cut to reduce static and surface noise.
