Superbooth 2025: Hainbach + Joranalogue - Collide 4

US Quadrature Spectral Computer      09/05/25

We caught up with Hainbach and Joranalogue at Superbooth 2025 for an in-depth talk about the Collide 4, their latest eurorack module. In the tranquil, yet techno-infused outdoor setting, they offered an impromptu performance using this intriguing device. Collide 4 was discussed as an innovative hybrid, blending old and new by repurposing lock-in amplifiers, typically utilized in physics labs, for musical exploration. Hainbach shared his unique usage of the module to turn a sub-bass kalimba into a flute-like instrument, demonstrating the module's ability to amplify and filter tonalities, creating textures remarkably different from traditional instruments. This conversation unraveled their design journey, highlighting technical aspects like precise analog multipliers for a cleaner sound and the addition of phase and magnitude outputs aimed at realising musical potential. Both emphasized the module's capacity to inspire artistic creativity beyond predefined paths.
