We had a chat with Alexandra from Eternal Research, who gave us a look at their first commercially available instrument, the Demon Box. This innovative device comprises 33 inductors that send out MIDI, CC and note data over three channels. It also accepts audio inputs, one of which features a MIDI converter. Additionally, the Demon Box outputs three audio channels and a triphonic stereo output.
Its unique functionality revolves around sensing magnetic fields and converting them into data for various applications. Alexandra mentioned that the device is particularly appealing for film music because of its ability to offer gestural control, making it highly dynamic and emotionally resonant. It integrates video control through a max patch, allowing simultaneous visual and auditory experiences. Eternal Research has begun manufacturing, and the Demon Box is priced between $899 and $999, with educational discounts available.
