Xfer Serum 2 Released as Free Update

Xfer's Serum - the popular wavetable synth, has been updated to version 2.

The original motivation for creating Serum was to have a dream synthesizer that did not exist: a wavetable synthesizer with a truly high-quality sound, visual and creative workflow-oriented interface to make creating and altering sounds fun instead of tedious, and the ability to "go deep" when desired - to create / import / edit / morph wavetables, and manipulate these on playback in real-time.

Serum version 2 blasts the sonic palette wide-open, offering the user ridiculous power, control and expression over their sonic output - with many oscillator types, flexible effect routing, arpeggiator and clip sequencer - the goal with Serum 2 was to empower Serum users to fully realize their sound and music ideas into form. Did we mention that Serum 2 is a free upgrade for Serum 1 owners? Lifetime free updates actually means lifetime free updates.

The announcement of this huge free update for existing users was cause of much excitement online. For new users, the intro price is $189. New features that caught our eye include:

  • Additional wavetable warp modes including true FM, PD from filters, distortions & more
  • Sample, Multisample, Granular & Spectral (ie Resynthesis) oscillators
  • New filter types, including Wsp, DJ Filter, MG Ladder & more
  • New FX, including a Bode Frequency-Shifter & Convolution
  • A clip sequencer - which looks like a basic but functional DAW piano roll with automation!
