NAMM 2025: SSL SSL18 and Alpha 8

At this year's NAMM show, we caught up with Ross from SSL who introduced us to the latest developments in their rack mount technology. SSL18, a new 1-rack U USB interface, featured prominently in their line-up. It offered a 26-in, 28-out configuration, equipped with 8 mic line inputs. Ross explained that these mic preamps took design cues from SSL's large format consoles. The interface also included dual independent headphone outputs, a comprehensive monitor controller section, and supported customizable buttons for various functions like cut, talkback, and solo. Additionally, it utilized next-gen 32-bit 192 converters. The SSL18 was priced at $1,199 and available now.

Ross also previewed the Alpha 8, an interface expander with 8 analog in/out and 10 digital in/out via ADAT and SPDIF. It impressed with DC coupled outputs, making it suitable for CV modulation when used with tools like Ableton's CV instruments.
