SonicWare CyDrums - Not Analog

Sonicware  continue to release products at quite a pace - we reviewed a couple of their grooveboxes (LoFi 12 XT and Mega Synthesis ) last year.

The latest to be unveiled is CyDrums:

a next-generation digital drum synthesizer that combines dual wavetable oscillators with velocity and pressure modulation, offering musicians a dynamic and evolving sound palette.

Key Features:

• 4D Drum Sound Evolution: CyDrums utilizes 64 original wavetables, each containing up to 256 single-cycle waveforms. Musicians have comprehensive control over start and end positions, playback directions, speed, and curves, enabling a vast array of sonic possibilities. Additionally, up to two parameters can be assigned to both velocity and pressure on the drum pads, allowing real-time modulation for dynamic and expressive performances.

• 22 Custom-Built Sound Structures: Tailored to individual instruments, these sound structures blend dual wavetables, noise, and pulse sources. This design facilitates the creation of sounds ranging from classic drum machine tones to innovative, experimental textures.

• Versatile Effects & Flexible Routing: CyDrums is equipped with two insert effects, reverb, and master effects, all featuring flexible routing options. With five effect routing modes, users can assign tracks to specific effects via bus routing, enhancing sound processing versatility.

• Powerful 8-Track Beat Making: The device includes an 8-track, 128-step sequencer inspired by the workflow of the Lofi-12 XT. This setup supports experimentation with odd time signatures and polyrhythms. Users can store up to 128 patterns per project, facilitating complex song arrangements and seamless pattern transitions during live performances.

• Endless Creative Possibilities: CyDrums offers generative pattern tools with randomization and probability settings. These features enable the creation of unique variations per track and real-time control over all parts, fostering endless creative possibilities and new musical discoveries.

Availability and Pricing:

The first 100 units of CyDrums are scheduled to ship on January 31st, with general shipments beginning around February 20th. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. Given the limited daily production and shipment quantities, interested customers are encouraged to place orders promptly. The introductory price is set at $399.
