Teenage Engineering OP-XY - 16 Track Portable Synthesizer

The rumours have been circulating, and the TE website has been running a countdown for what seems like an age. Today, the OP-XY is launched. With more than a passing resemblance to the OP-1 Field, the OP-XY seems more serious in black aluminium with a familiar looking UI though.

After looking at the images, we can see there are more buttons, with an extra row added by redesigning the 24 key keyboard to use smaller buttons. The 'white' keys also double up as function buttons, with a bunch of icons for shift functions. In fact, there appears to be lot more complexity to the UI than with the OP-1 Field.

There are 16 tracks of 1920 PPQN resolution sequencing - with 9 scenes each with 99 patterns, up to 64 steps each, which may mean that they have incorporated some of the excellent sequencing chops of the KO II.

There still appears to be a Tape button (4 tracks?), 24 voice polyphony, sampling, multiple synth engines (unspecified) and punch in FX. We've heard it 8 GB of storage and 512MB ram but this is unverified.

It's still a chunk of change at £1899, so pretty much in the same premium category as the OP-1 Field, but people we've spoken to who had their hands on it are impressed.

Without some hands-on experience, it's hard to know exactly what the OP-XY offers, as the press release we got is pretty low on facts. No doubt there will be a bunch of videos coming in the next few hours/days/weeks.
