Putting a Fairlight Series III CMI Through Its Paces

The Fairlight Series of samplers are known for being the original game changer when it came to sampling in the studio - despite a rather hefty price tag. Here's what Sound On Sound said about it in September 1986, taken from Mu;Zines:

The Fairlight Series III is one of the most advanced musical instruments in the marketplace today. A superb integration of hardware and software, it offers a wide range of music realisation facilities and Compact Disc digital sound quality to those successful enough to afford it. 

In the video, Roger Bolton explores the influential sampler and covers many of its features - and estimates that 40% of all hit records between 1985 and 1990 were made using the Fairlight. Here's a short documentary, which we've posted in the past - great if you've not seen it.
