World's First Dedicated Boobams Sample Library

Impact Soundworks has released MB Gordy Percussion: Boobams, a virtual instrument sampling the unique Hollywood percussion instrument known as the Boobams. They tell us that this is the world's first dedicated Boobams sample library. Here's the details direct from the company...

Constructed of rectangular bamboo tubes of varying sizes, Boobams are a tonal percussion instrument with a woody sound that can range from tight and punchy to more full-bodied depending on the type of strike. The instrument was originally created by Hollywood composer Harry Partch, and it can be heard in Planet of the Apes, the Batman TV show, The Pink Panther, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, as well as on albums in genres including jazz, pop, rock, electronic, and experimental music.

For MB Gordy Percussion: Boobams, the instrument was meticulously sampled with four hit types (implements) -- fingers, hot rods, mallets, and sticks. All four can be altered using the provided playback controls, which include ADSR, tone, doubling, note stretch, and transposition, among others. The instrument's original two-octave range has been expanded on either end for greater usability, with a range from C2 to C5. There is also an ensemble setting, in which two to all four of the hit types can be layered together for a rich, unique sound, as well as a number of varied presets included.

The library started as a collaboration between acclaimed Hollywood percussionist and drummer M.B. Gordy and game, film, and TV composer Lennie Moore.

"When Lennie reached out to me about working on this project, I was thrilled. I've been a huge fan of M.B.'s work over the last few decades... he really is the session percussion king," said Impact Soundworks CEO Andrew Aversa. "Plus, an instrument like the boobams, which has never had its own dedicated library, is right in line with what ISW is all about."

MB Gordy Percussion: Boobams is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, with no dongle required.
