Toneworks Releases Catalyst

US Modular VST/AU sequencing plugin with a step sequencer, harmoniser, and arpeggiator      14/03/23

Toneworks has announced the release of Catalyst which they describe as a modular VST/AU sequencing plugin that features a monophonic step sequencer, a harmoniser, and an arpeggiator. They say that Catalyst also acts as a host for VST/AU synth plugins and provides dedicated step sequencers for parameter automation.

Toneworks founder Ramus Buskov, told us, "We always felt that the piano roll was the wrong tool for electronic music production. That's why we created Catalyst. We wanted to combine the immediacy and inspiration you get from hardware sequencers with the superior capabilities of desktop software."

Toneworks says that Catalyst only plays notes and chords in the key chosen by the user, making the plugin a great tool for inexperienced producers that have little knowledge of music theory. They believe that it also means that the extensive randomisation capabilities of Catalyst can be used without ever producing results that sound false or out of place.

Features

  • Monophonic step sequencer module for melodies and basslines that can be triggered from a MIDI keyboard.
  • Harmoniser module with "voicing" and "density" controls that turns single notes into full fledged chords.
  • Arpeggiator module with support for custom arpeggio patterns.
  • When modules are used in combination, the step sequencer feeds single notes into the harmonizer, which in turn feeds chords into the arpeggiator.
  • Hosts any VST/AU synth plugin and provides dedicated step sequencers for parameter automation.

Pricing and Availability:
Catalyst is available now for MacOS and Windows from the Toneworks website. The plugin supports the VST2, VST3 and Audio Unit (AU) formats and a free trial is available for download.
Catalyst is priced at USD/EUR 49 until March 31, 2023 and at USD/EUR 79 after that.
