Resonator For 3D Sound

Resonator For 3D Sound

La Voix du Luthier has announced a brand new resonator named La Voile ("the sail" in English, due to the shape of the back soundboard). They say that it's a simpler, but still great sounding resonator, still using traditional tone-wood soundboards, but in a more traditional guitar amplifier style enclosure. Here's their press release with the full details...

Guyancourt - France – We are very happy to unveil our brand new resonator: La Voile !

Based on our experience with the Onde and the Pyramid, we designed a resonator where we integrated the principle of "floating soundboards" that is not often used but that you can find in some old music box, for example. Its principle is to have 2 suspended spruce soundboards and therefore no soundbox. The result is a gain in sound precision but, as compared to the Onde and Pyramid, a little less bass and sound level. To compensate this we have added an optional preamplifier, with input Gain and Low, Mid, High frequency controls (it applies only on the line input, not on the Bluetooth).

The curved soundboard has no equivalent and results from our own research and experiments: it is designed to be very complimentary to the front circular soundboard. The name La Voile (the sail), comes from this very unique soundboard. The enclosure has been designed to remind the shape of traditional guitar amplifiers and to make it highly portable (and as for the Onde  and Pyramid, it can be battery-powered), but it is 100% built of wood (poplar) with an elegant clear finish. The embedded electronic amplifier is exactly the same as for the Single Body Pyramid. These design choices allow a simpler building process, and therefore a significantly lower price, while still keeping a high quality level.

Its preamplifier option allows a use with a wider range of instruments: acoustic and electric guitars, stringed instruments and, in fact, any device having a contact microphone... and, of course, synthesisers!

As for the Onde and the Pyramid, we are always happy to answer customisation requests (that only such handmade instruments allow): feel free to contact us (contact@la-voix-du-luthier.com) if you want your own very special resonator.

We are starting presale at a special introductory price of 557 € (tax and shipping excluded) or 667 € with the preamplifier option. This offer is limited to the first 40 orders (our first production batch)... and the price will be significantly raised after this first batch. The estimated delivery is March 2023.

About La Voix du Luthier:
La Voix du Luthier was born from the meeting of a traditional luthier (guitar, etc.) and an electronic luthier: the combination of their skills made it possible to design loudspeakers, also called resonators, using the principles of traditional lutherie -with soundboard instead of speaker cones- for a warm, enveloping and natural sound. This know-how is unique in the world. In addition to their functional aspect, these speakers, entirely handmade in carefully selected woods, have a neat and elegant design which makes them very beautiful objects to decorate an interior. Our Ondes, Pyramids and the brand new La Voile, are high-end speakers/resonators that generate 3D sound, like an acoustic instrument since the sound comes directly from the vibrations of the 2 soundboards. There are no loudspeakers inside, only acoustic exciters transmitting the vibration to the wood. It's the same principle as for a guitar: the strings themselves are barely hearable, but they transmit their vibrations to the soundboard through the bridge, and what you hear is the sound amplification via the soundboard. Our exciters act as the bridge and transmit electrical "vibrations" to the wood.
