Analysing Aphex Twin's Avril 14th

US In-depth compositional exploration by ixi music      20/04/22

Thursday last week was April 14th, with many people referencing one of Aphex Twins most famous tracks. In this video, ixi music goes over the compositional structure and voicing of the piece, playing each section part by part and offering her thoughts on it. She's honest about her lack of knowledge about RDJ but definitely has enough of an understanding of musical theory to do justice to the piece.

The track was famously sampled by Kanye West in his track 'Blame Game' - what a fascinating story must be behind this. Here is what the Guardian wrote about the sampling:

 

There are numerous covers of this song online! Here's a 14 minute Paulstreched version of the original with a slightly less interesting story behind it  - having a copyright strike with a track called 'Howard - Religion' (listen to the end of that track).
