The Paralysed Producer Using Eye Tracking To Make Music

US French artist Pone living with ALS      23/03/22

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is an incurable illness which disrupts the body's control over it's muscles leading to suffers being irreversibly paralyzed. French Producer Pone (Guilhem Gallart) fell ill in 2015 and is now on permanent life support, but incredibly he's still able to make music - his return to music was a 2019 album 'Kate & Me', an ode to Kate Bush. It was the first album to be recorded entirely using eye-tracking software. What an astonishingly defiant achievement - here's one of his newer tracks:

'The Diving Bell & The Butterfly' is a book, and subsequent film about Jean Dominique-Bauby, the fashion editor who lived with locked-in syndrome - powerful, moving and inspirational. Pone has also published ALS for Dummies, a book that collects his articles about the under-represented condition.
