I'm sure you're familiar with the barcode battling work of ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!, who use CRTs and barcodes to create wild and frenzied electronic performances. This particular video has to be one of their most out-there ideas - using skateboards to ride over large barcodes and a giant barcode board to make noise! It blurs the boundaries between performance art and live music, while not taking itself too seriously. Brilliant! 

You'll find all kinds of barcode synthesis on their channel - an ingenious way of taking data from one medium and using it to create completely unorthodox and experimental sounds. For those who prefer finger boarding, they've done that too:
