Can You Use A Sequencer From 1973 in 2022?

Hainbach is well known for incorporating almost antique and esoteric equipment in his setup, and in this latest video he attempts to use a 49 year old sequencer! He employs the use of the Oberheim DS-2A, the second ever commercially available sequencer, which was the precursor to the Oberheim SEM - designed to be used in conjunction with the DS-2A. 

The sequence has a limited set of features with a total of 144 steps if you chain the sequencers together. It has no clock input, but does take CV  and trigger input, so Hainbach uses an Make Noise 0-CTRL to set the tempo and a SYNTRX from Erica Synths for it's dual inputs. It's a nice example of using equipment which may be seen as outdated in a modern setup - and a nod to the beauty and simplicity of limitations, which we covered in this article.
