Last night, news came in that jazz pioneer Chick Corea has passed away from a rare form of cancer. He was one of the giants of the keyboard world. His composition work lead to the creation of many standards in the canon of jazz repertoire.
He also was key in the creation and advancement of the Jazz Fusion style which formed through the late 1960s and 1970s. He received 23 Grammy awards, including 2020 "Best Latin Jazz Album" played with most of the jazz legends and also released over 70 albums. He was a prolific composer and pianist and also was an early pioneer in the use of synthesizers in jazz, with the Arp Odyssey and Oberheim 8 voice being used extensively.
His influence on 20th and 21st century music can not be overestimated.
