NAMM 2015: App Plays MIDI Files On Macs

MethodRed has announced today the release of MIDIPlayer X, which they describe as the fastest, easiest way to play MIDI files on your Mac. They tell us that MIDIPlayer X works with your MIDI hardware and software, and will play any MIDI file to your choice of available MIDI outputs, either hardware or software, or to its own built-in GM-compatible virtual synth.

Doug Hanson, founder of MethodRed, said, "Sometimes you just need to audition one or several MIDI files, and adding them to your current project or opening new ones in your DAW can slow down your work flow. MIDIPlayer X is designed to be small, fast, and elegantly simple to use - just drag and drop and your MIDI file is playing."

Key Features
• Plays any Standard MIDI File
• Works with any MIDI hardware and software
• Built-in GM-compatible synth
• Simple drag and drop operation

Powered by Apple's CoreMIDI technology, MIDIPlayer X works with virtually all commercial MIDI hardware and software. It will locate all available MIDI outputs, both hardware and virtual, so you can select your desired sound source. Easily switch playback between an external keyboard or sound module, or to other software instruments and apps inside your Mac.

MIDIPlayer X includes its own software synth using Apple's CoreAudio technology. So even if you have no other MIDI hardware or software available on your Mac, you'll always have a 16- part multitimbral, General MIDI-compatible synth available.

Simply drag and drop your file on to MIDIPlayer X, and playback can start immediately - eliminating extra clicks or keystrokes. It's especially handy since the Mac no longer plays MIDI files from the Finder. MIDIPlayer X will display file information including title, tempo, time signature, as well as active MIDI channels and System Exclusive data.

System Requirements
MIDIPlayer X requires Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks or later.

Pricing and Availability:
MIDIPlayer X is available now at a special introductory price of $0.99 from Apple's Mac App Store.
