Everybody needs a beautiful acoustic guitar in their collection, and they don’t get much more beautiful than the Taylor GA8. You could spend a lot more money on a Taylor guitar, but having reviewed this beauty recently, I don’t think it’s necessary unless you are looking for something in particular.
The GA8 is a brilliant all-rounder, and when you’re fighting zombies in the apocalypse, you’re going to need something that you can go home to in the evening and play some soothing fingerstyle on, and then dabble in some Tenacious D style acoustic rock if necessary.
The GA8 features the Grand Auditorium body shape, which is the signature acoustic shape from Taylor. The neck profile seems catered towards electric guitarists, it’s fairly narrow but features a comfortable round neck shape.
Then there’s the actual sound of the thing, the GA8 seems to respond really well to heavy handed strummers such as myself, the bottom end really booms and comes alive when you strike an open E major.
There is definitely a frequency missing on the response of GA8, and it’s the exact frequency you don’t want to have on an acoustic guitar - the boxy frequency. This particular part of the mid range is overpowered by the beautiful high and low range. This means that softer playing and finger picking sound gentle and warm, but you don’t lose any warmth when you play harder.
