Five Guitars You Must Own In A Zombie Apocalypse

It's a battle to save the Earth, better get playing!   08-Jul-12

Guitar Four

The Classic - Epiphone Sheraton

There’s a common myth that shredders don’t make good blues players, and that you can’t play blues if you don’t have ‘the blues’. Rubbish, you just need the right guitar, and the right sound... and possibly just to slow down a little bit.

Unplug and play the blues on a Sheraton, even dabble in some jazz if you’re feeling brave. Then plug it in and turn the distortion down, and hear the blues come to life. Everybody needs a blues machine, and in terms of value for money I think this is a good bet.

If you're buying a brand new one off the shelf then you're going to have to go for the Sheraton II, or you can pay a lot more money and get an original, but that would be breaking the rules of our little game!

The original Sheraton was an iconic from Epiphone, favoured by many of the best guitarists at the time. The obvious rival is the Gibson ES 335, but I think for the differences in price at the moment that you’re better off sticking with a Sheraton if you are new to the world of Archtops. The wonderful world of Archtops, I should say.

Famous players:

Noel Gallagher, John Lee Hooker, Matthew Followill (Kings of Leon)
