This is a great sounding and highliy entertaining box. Don't see it as a bread and butter synth. This is an addition to an existing setup. Ideal for electronic musicians who have a playful approach to making music. Due to the plethora of knobs, sound tweaking is very easy. Probably the greates feature of the ADX1 is the modulation knob which adds random changes to select parameters on each channel, either cutoff or pitch. This is superb and makes for a lot of interesting variations. With the exception of the snare module which has a very strange synthesis structure and oftens sounds woody or bashy, all the modules produce high quality analog sounds with lots of character and vintage flair. The kick module has a lot of belly, and thanks to FM it can even produce weird sound-effect like timbres. Electronic toms are possible on it, as well. The synth module creates everything from kicks, cowbells, drones, chords to zaps. Hihat and metal have a very pleasing and crisp sound. Especially the hihat tone component makes a very nice "beeeeng" sound.

Get this if you want to expand your drum instrumentarium and if you're looking for an easy to use, analog drum expander.

Its a great addition which can really power up the sound, but dangerous in the sense that the noises can get out of control if you're live, so progress slowly so you can get back again. Wouldnt part with it, and the bloke who sold it to me on ebay, mail me back and asked to buy it back

Interesting sounds are possible on this fully analog drum box. With carefull turning of the bass drum knobs, a really powerful 909 type kick is possible. Also, those long, deep 808 booms are easy on this box. Where this machine really stands out though, is the range of 606, 808 and even CR78 type bass and hi-hat sounds that are possible. Clangs and bell type sounds are also possible with the synth section. The snare is deep and woody. I would have liked more tuning of the pitch for the snare and I found a decent clap sound hard to create. However, for the cheap price, it is excellent value for money, and all those real-time knobs make creating new sounds easy. Something different but good in a market where everything is starting to sound the same.
