Analog Visionz has released SMPL2WAV for MacOS and Windows. It is designed to extract classic samples from sample CDs. The 90s and early 00s produced a mountain of sample CDs covering almost every sound and genre imaginable. Most were pressed in proprietary data formats specific to each company's samplers and while they're widely available on internet archives today, actually using them is a headache anyone who's tried knows all too well. Here's what SMPL2WAV developer Tom from Analog Visionz says about it...

SMPL2WAV came out of my own frustration with the lack of a modern, affordable and straightforward way to extract usable audio from the huge amount of proprietary-format sample CDs still floating around online.
 
There are a few existing solutions, but they tend to be hugely expensive, unintuitive, old and unsupported, Windows-only, or some combination of the above.
 
I built SMPL2WAV to be a fast and easy way to turn those old sampler libraries into organised WAV folders in seconds and have made it available for PC, Intel Mac and Apple Silicon (with a Linux port in the works).
 
You can simply drag a disc image onto the app and, within moments, browse, preview and extract the samples directly. It supports the major Akai, E-mu, Roland and Ensoniq sampler formats, as well as standard audio discs and common archive/image formats.
 
One feature I've found particularly useful is automatic slicing of long audio tracks containing multiple samples, such as many of the classic Zero-G CDs. SMPL2WAV detects the silence between sounds, splits them into individual samples and trims them automatically, producing ready-to-use one-shots. This feature works on all audio file sources, not just sample CD disc images. Samples can also be renamed and routed into custom folders directly within the app.
 
I'll be continuing to expand format support, and I already have several more obscure formats in testing for the next release.
