I've often wondered why we're not seeing any Quad Core laptops - I'm pretty sure demand is there - heck - I'd buy one (well if it was a Mac I guess, and cheap enough, and light and, and, and). But clearly the technology to accomplish this has been lacking. Dell just announced the availability (coming this Autumn) of their new Precision range, which gives the potential for Quad Core processing - (2.26gHz core Duo standard ugradeable to an Intel 2.53gHz Quad Core for a mere $900 ), RAM expandable to 16GB if you go with a 64-bit OS. Video cards available to drive up to two 30" LCD monitors, Gigabit hardwired network and Dell wireless included as standard. Sounds promising but, as stated above, the Quad Core bit will cost ya, and to get more than 4GB of RAM, you’ll need the 64-bit version of Vista, plus a wad of cash. The expanded Precision 4400 - neither Dell US or Dell UK allowed me to reach the maximum configuration. I got as far as a Quad Core processor, 8GB RAM, 500GB internal, Vista x64 Business Edition HDs, top notch graphics - this would set you back £2639 approx $4,746.50 - don’t panic, I didn’t press the order button. Ah, I knew there’d be a catch... Nick Batt
