I tested this synth for about an hour (without the manual) before I managed to figure out how it works. Let me tell you, the synthesis method is very different from anything I've tried so far. It's based on simulating the physics of how real acoustic instruments create their sounds - like how the air streaming through a mouthpiece or reed into the instrument pipe makes the air column oscillating, or how a bow creates a resonance on the strings which is picked up by the instrument body. The patch parameters are also very different - like embouchure, tonguing, growl, breath noise, throat format or scream. Seems weird, but it really works. The sound of the VL1 is, well, in my ears not very different from any good PCM-based synth, but the expression capabilities are simply tremendous! The VL1 is monophonic, which is a shame, but it's really designed to be a solo instrument and that is what it's good at.

Comments About the Sounds:
The wind instrument sounds are great, but I find them very hard to play sympathetically on the keyboard (but then again, I'm a pretty average keyboard player).
