I am very disappointed in this card. The audio quality was pristine, the one time I could get it to work. Lets just compare this to the 50 dollar PCI audio card I intended it to replace. First off, the manual tells you to leave it out of any Athelon based system, so not knowing this ahead of time will cost you. There are known issues with most software you would use, and they are nice enough to list workarounds. You have to install your ASIO based software (cubase or logic, etc) first and follow thier instructions precisely. This is not bad, except I did so through 3 installs of windows and couldn't get it to work again. I am left emailing a support team that wouldnt take or return my phonecalls. Now, to be fair, I did everything I could and this still isnt working. The worst part being I mailordered it, so returning it after the box is open is literally impossible. Hopefully this review will steer you clear of buying this device unless you have good luck and a pentium III based system with AGP video and lots of spare memory and a spare drive specifically for audio (these are the suggested setup). Including all known system configuration issues on their product page would've let me know not to throw my money away. With better support, a new set of drivers and maybe a miracle, this card could potentially rock.

Good Points On breakout box digital in/out. Parasitic powered breakout box and included cable. A respected name in the effects industry offering a good price on an effects daughterboard for it. Bad Points Very very shaky setup. Requires full length pci slot and hates being in an AMD based system. The manufacturers suggestions are disabling most of windows functionality and that still may not work. If anyone can get this wouldbe boat anchor to work again, I would love to sell it to them. When it was working, there was no simple play while record going on, i.e. I couldn't tell if I was recording or not till I played the file back. This alone is discouraging, not mentioning the rest of the review. |
