The Bass Station is a good solid monophonic synth, its sound sits well in the mix and it is versatile enough to create everything from searing lead lines to trouser shaking bass. With a little creative programming drum sounds can be created although the inclusion of a high pass filter would have been helpful. When used in Logic 6 as an audiounit I found it to be very solid, on my 500mhz G4 Powerbook I was able to get 10 instances playing together with no hiccups or lag in timing. The built in factory presets are very useable and extensive sysex libraries can be found via the web, so the import function is a great addition.

The tempo synced LFO is tight and the filter can either be warm or screechingly severe. With the help of a little delay, trance and acid lead lines fall with ease out of this little machine, it is possible to write basic grooves using nothing else.

The way its set up makes it a good performance tool, but as with all software plug-ins you really want to get your hands on, so a good controller keyboard is essential if you want to get the most out of it

The Bass Station plug-in is basically a very authentic replication of its hardware namesake, it looks the same, it sounds the same and only really lacks the midi to CV converter that the Bass Station Rack had, although unfortunately this is all I currently use mine for.
