Introduction
BT rocks New Years Eve | For those of you not familiar with his work, BT –A.k.a. Brian Transeau is something of a rarity, firmly rooted in the world of dance music his programming acumen is somewhat legendary. Remixes and collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Seal, Britney Spears, Deep Dish and infamously *NSYNC have reinforced his pop and dance credentials, whilst his work on the scores of several major Hollywood movies have proved that he’s not just a pretty bass.
To coincide with his forthcoming album, Emotional Technology on the Nettwerk America label, BT agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to do an interview for Sonic State. We asked the techno-wunderkind his thoughts on technology, life and what makes it all worthwhile.
Questions, Questions...
SS: Firstly, where are you now and what are you currently working on? BT: I'm in LA, currently finishing my fourth album for which I wrote over forty songs. It'll be done by the end of the year (2002)
SS: Your forthcoming album due for release in the New Year is your 4th studio album; how did you approach this one – did you do anything differently? BT: Not really, I think that the approach was similar to how I did my last records, although a lot of these songs were done in phases, there is a lot of through composed material on this record. In the course of one song, from a verse to a bridge might be a three month period of time. Also, the genesis for a lot of the ideas actually became remix parts. A lot of the songs that appear on the final album are actually seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth generations of the original mix idea. Some even more so.
