SonicLAB: Bitwig Studio 6.1 Update With Thavius Beck

Sampler gets a lot of new features   26-Aug-26

In this Sonic Lab we look at the Bitwig 6.1 release with certified Bitwig trainer and performer Thavius Beck, who joins us from New York.

As well as many other workflow tweaks and optimizations, the main focus is the reworked sampler. Thavius slices a drum loop using onset (transient) detection, then demonstates parameter zones to modulate a high-pass filter on a single slice.
He covers re-pitch mode with analog and digital character, plus pitch detection that plays any note with a dynamic root. Granular synthesis covered in the new Fragments mode, with grain size set to note intervals and modulated grain shape.

Spectral mode handles extreme time stretching, onset preservation and formant reharmonisation, turning a piano into something dark and vocoder-like.

Bitwig Studio 6.1 is available now, with the sampler included in all versions
