We covered the Violet Audio dMix 128 digital mixer in our NAMM 26 coverage (see attached video) - its a mid price network DSP mixing system with high IO count (128) and plenty of DSP for input and output processing.
The new update builds in an MCP server (an interface for AI connection) enabling AI-assisted and automation-friendly control that runs directly on the hardware. It sits alongside the mixer's browser control, OSC, QRC/JSON, AES67, SMPTE ST 2110-30 and NMOS features to make the system easier to integrate in connected audio environments.
MCP is a structured way for external applications to describe and execute tasks with context, which means compatible assistants and control systems can issue human-readable commands that the mixer understands and confirms. Violet Audio says the approach is designed to simplify complex workflows while keeping all audio processing inside the mixer.
In practice, this lets you tie the mixer into facility control and software workflows without extra middleware, or give it a simplified interface for non-technical operators while engineers retain full access to the mixing environment. Because MCP is context-aware, tasks can be expressed as outcomes rather than low-level parameter nudges, and the mixer handles execution and confirmation.
Violet Audio says the MCP addition is part of a broader plan to keep dMix 128 open and interoperable as AI-assisted control matures.
"Hey dMix 128 - turn down the DJ" - the mind boggles...
