A budget rackmount effects unit from Zoom with the same concept as the RFX-300 but more sophisticated. This baby has just about any effect you could want, including esoteric sonic goosers like a vocoder and ring modulation. How do they do it for the price? 33 programs are available, but each one has 11 quite different sounding variations accessible via a rotary knob - effectively giving you 363 different sounds. Plenty for everyone, but there needs to be - as there's only one adjustable parameter per program it's a case of choosing the closest to what you need and giving it a basic tweak if needed. This may not satisfy anyone who enjoys number crunching editing but it makes dialling in effects quick and painless leaving more time for concentrating on the music. Programs contain anything from single effects (121 reverb variations anybody?) through effects combined with reverb to some stereo mix treatments for beefing up your tracks.
