Has anyone considered the fact that everyone's ears are different, so one might be able to mix fine on them when someone else can't?

The 824 has a very immediately impressive sound, with lots of bass extension. However, as pointed out by others, I have found it far from flat in response (despite the manufacturer's claims) and colours the sound in a way that does not translate to other studios or to most hi-fi speakers. For this reason, I can't use them as reference monitors any more and will be moving to another (albeit more expensive)make. Give them a listen with music you know really well and compare to Genelec, etc.

I've had these monitors for about half a year now, and I only have good things to say about them. I've noticed like the rest of you that they're not totally flat but for the purposes I'm using them for (drum and bass) they have the perfect response... deep, accurate, detailed low end, crisp highs, and good transient response means I can make mixes that translate very well to club systems.

These monitors are used by a lot of famous producers, incl. Optical, )EI3(, Timbaland, etc... look into them if you're doing any type of electronic music.

I've had these for about a year, and I have to agree with some of the criticisms. The bass response of the hr824's seems to be so clear and generous that it's almost decieving to mix on them. I'm having a hell of a time getting mixes to translate. Additionally the midrange does seem a bit 'compressed' or 'narrow' relative to the extension in the lows and highs (definitely past the range that will translate well). They sound very impressive, but do have some color that I have learned to discern. The upshot: they're fine monitors, but getting around and past the above issues is definitely work, though perhaps this is requisite in some form on all monitors...

I really love these speakers. They sound absolutely incredible. Imagine the power of a proper kickin' amplifier and a nice set of speakers with perfect acoustic response...that's the HR824s!!! If you want you could even EQ them from the back or if you would like, EQ from your favorite EQ box. I have an Alesis M-EQ 230 dual 1/3 Octave range before the inputs of the speakers to make these speakers sound like the way that your dream speakers sound! Very nice price too...
