Sound pretty good but the interface is awful and polychain mode does not work as advertised. In polychain mode any evolver is about 6db hotter than any polyevolver giving you voices that are noticably louder than others.

Woof. I thought the sounds were cool (it's what captured my imagination) but it's one of the worst sequencers EVER! It was so difficult to get good results out of it I sold it in less than a month.

small and amazing, the editor is a good thing + the ability to create your own waveshapes (korg DSS-1 memories). That ability that you can do your own waveshaping is a next dimension in creating sounds ! People who still compair maybe it`s time to listen to a synth as something different than re-making or reliving the old days. 2 analog + 2 digital osc. Nice filter, own specific sound great manipulator ! Bought this from someone who didn`t like the precision of the analog osc (he basically bought it to have some old analog synth, so i think you better get an old analog synth) , he had no clue what he just sold to me! I remember "in those good old days" that people were complaing that their synth was shifting tones or not stable enough and now they`re complaing about the stable osc. Let me just conclude that i`m glad that i have the evolver mainly for the waveshaping (digital part) and the very specific sound it has ! This will stand next to my moog source, moog prodigy, juno, oberheims etc.... We can bitch all day about the setup of the knobs etc... but until you hear this sound you`ll forget it and just try a little harder to remember the positions of the menu.

The original desktop "Evolver" is one incredible sounding synth! Only one thing could make it better in my estimation. Imagine a FOUR ANALOG OSCILLATOR version. No thin sounding digital wavetables -just solid ANALOG sinew( -up to FOUR detuned ANALOG PWM'd waveforms thick! ). And all coming out of a hardback novel sized synth. That much power packed inside a knapsack sized micro synth. Delicious! Sexy! Irresistable! I'd buy one in a microsecond! Would you? Visit www.amersynth.com/asm_001.htm, click on the "Gear Reviews" sidebar link, scroll down to the "Evolver Survey" and weigh in on the controversy. Perhaps if there's enough demand, Dave will consider enhancing his line with such a beast.
