What a time to be into synthesizers eh? Modal, another UK synth manufacturer (just down the road from us) have today announced the Cobalt8 synthesizer, an 8 voice DSP based synthesizer.
Its got a very similar look to the Argon8 but is a lovely shade of blue. It also does not offer Wavetables, but extended VA synthesis with 34 distinct algorithms which generate a pretty wide range of oscillators tones.
Like the Argon8 we have the same hight speed LFOs, 3 envelopes, 3 FX slots, arpeggiator and 512 sequencer, but the other major difference is the new filter type which is a modeled 4 pole ladder filter, at its core, but with the ability to morph through bandpass and high pass, plus there are several additional filter modes.
8 Modulation slots, plus 4 fixed assignments and Modal App editor support bring it into line with the other Modal Electronics offerings.
I only had time for a quick look as it only arrived a couple of days ago, but initial impressions are good, it has a distinct sound and some lovely example patches.
