Blog: Game Audio Scripting With Unity - Part 2

US Working with reverb      29/04/14

Audio Filters
Finally, let's look briefly at Audio Filters. Audio Filters are additional audio effects available with the Pro version of Unity. Specifically they are: Low Pass Filter, High Pass Filter, Echo Filter, Distortion Filter, Reverb Filter and Chorus Filter.

Audio Filters work a bit differently than Reverb Zones. While Reverb Zones have some awareness of the scene (via the Audio Listener and Audio Sources), Audio Filters can be thought of as simple effects units in a typical effects chain.

Audio Filters can also be applied to either Audio Sources or Audio Listeners. For example, if the player is underwater you could apply a Low Pass Filter to the Audio Listener, thereby affecting all Audio Sources. Conversely, if a machine was going haywire you could apply a Distortion Filter to the corresponding Audio Source.

As with everything else we've looked at, Audio Filters can be manipulated by script. The Script reference shows all variables and methods available. Here's the Low Pass Filter script reference, as an example.
