This certainly isn't the first time we've seen mic modelling software claim to be able to transform a recording from one mic to sound like it was recorded with another. Up to now, the results have been, erm variable.

I mean you can't tell me that a 57 can sound like a C12 - it just can't happen.

The Slate Digital approach is hardware based, it comes with two mics the ML-1  a large diaphragm condenser the ML-2 a small diaphragm condenser together with a Steven Slate built custom mic preamp.

The mic and preamp combination provides a flat, neutral response so the plugin can work with a known quantity and can apply mic and preamp modelling more accurately.

The package of the two mics, the twin channel mic pre and the plugin will retail for around $2,000.

At release, there will be 6 mic pre models and 50 mics with more to come.
