Korg microKorg 2 Revamped Classic

US New synth engine, FX and colour display      18/01/24

The original microKORG is a synth that was ubiquitous at one point, every synth band had one, every guitar band with a synth bit in one of their songs had one, it was quite simply one of the best selling synths of all time and it has been 20 years since it was first released, so its surprising that its taken Korg this long to get around to a version 2.

Today Korg bring us the microKORG2 (though they are just calling it microKORG on the website), it follows much the same form factor, with the slot in the back for the gooseneck vocoder mic, the charming and almost instantly out of date patch selection genre selection knob, a five knob parameter editing matrix but a more robust metal chassis.

The UI now has a 2.8inch colour IPS LCD - whoohoo! and a totally new VA synth engine (Analog modeling synthesis system) 8 voices with 4 per layer (2 layers)

The vocoder/voice processing has been revamped too with a four part harmonizer additional FX, plus there are more overall FX algorithms.

Also new is a Loop Recorder for building up sketches, layers and whatnot though the specs don't tell us how long or if they can be saved with a patch.

The new MicroKorg2 is available soon priced at $699. I'm sure Korg would be delighted if it sells half as many as the OG.

The MicroKorg XL+ is still listed for sale at online retailers we looked at today.
