Using Chopin To Make Drum Beats

US Nahre Sol explores creative beat making      18/02/22

For those who have grown tired of conventional four-on-the-floor and predictably broken beats, how about trying programming drums from melodies? Nahre Sol performs, composes and teaches a mixture of music that draws from aspects of improvisation, the avant-garde, traditional Western forms and harmony, jazz, and minimalism - making her the perfect person to give this a go.

In the video, she loads up Logic and NI Battery 4, and attempts to breathe new life into classical compositions through beats! Over the space of two days she selects various short, uncomplicated sections to convert - with varying degrees of success. It's a novel take on beat making and one which could garner you some interesting results. You might also try reversing, re-quantising, or flipping the notes for alternative iterations.
