Why are folks so down on the Roland D-beam? I have two on the V-synth, and for crazy fast or super slow and complex modulations they are amazing. Even Alesis had the XYZ dome controller on some gear, and it was good for positional changes and other FX. It's certainly more variable than a pedal, ribbon, or stick.
