This is a pretty simple to use ADAT digital hard disk (or scsi ZIP,M.O.,ect.) 8 track. The used market for these seems to be going through the floor, and you might find one for as little as $100 (US) if you take your time shopping on e-bay or where ever. It is the perfect match for the harder to find Fostex VM-200 digital mixer. It may also work backing up older ADAT digital tape decks at 44.1 or 48 khz but I have not tested this!

Good Points It can be an inexpensive upgrade of existing older ADAT setups. It can format its own eide hard drives. Its pretty small and lightwieght. Its remotely operable via mmc (MIDI). It can record to SCSI zip ect. with or without a hard disk installed (although that's not as good as a hard disk option). Bad Points Requires a software upgrade to address larger hard drives. (The upgrade is available at Fostex's website, however it is not exactly easy to perform unless you are Mr. SCSI ZIP.) Limited by the 16 bit/44.1/48 khz Spec. |
