HTC Vive VR Interface for Ableton Live

US We met the developer at We Are Robots      03/11/17

We first saw what VR developer Jim Simons was up to in a Sonic TALK episode, where we featured one of his demo videos.

The system provides a VR interface - (you can buy the app now) using MIDI scripting to interact in real time with an Ableton Live session. I tried it in person at the show and have to say, as a VR newbie, it blew me away, aside from the obvious wow factor of the VR part, the interface Jim has developed - the latency and accuracy of the control is super impressive.

At present, the HTC Vive and also Oculus Rift are both fairly hefty investments, but this will change and the possibilities to increase 3 dimensional control of other aspects of music creation and performance are pretty mind-boggling, as is the weird things it does to your brain to be both connected to the physical world and also a secondary one inside the VR.

Doing a vide of this kind of technology doesnt really do it justice and Jim has posted a few more comprehensive videos himself, we do recommend checking them out.

This app is available to buy via the Steampowered store at just £9.99 though of course you will need the headset and other assiciated hardware to make it function
