A wonderful machine, 5 years on and this one is still the daddy of the all in one format. All you suckers who don't like this machine don't understand it properly & its potential. It is capable of producing sounds that will blow you away. Take away the presets, patterns & silly groovebox tag. And right now this machine would have truly legendry status. I have programmed bass patches in the MC505 that can match any of the old analogues. Bring on your Minimoog or MS20 OR Pro-one the difference isn't worth talking about. At the same time I have programed some lush pads & sounds that can swing it with a jupiter or Oberheim. And the sweeping effects & resonating sounds this box can make wow. We're talking instant Bladerunner, no kidding. What small-minded people do is pigeon whole something because it was meant to be used in a particular way or for a particular genre of music. I make soundtrack music and the MC505 is amazing for that. Another overlooked aspect of this wonderful machine is how portable it is. Imagine trying to haul all those big heavy analogue synths, drum machines sequencers etc around with you to work on a tune, if you're on the move. No Roland gave a an amazing producutin tool, the question is do you have the imagination & creativity to use it to its full potential ? Unfortunately many of you don't, but that's your loss.

The MC505 is the bomb! Anybody who thinks you can't make great original sounds with a 505 have either never really used one, or have no imagination. All these idiots who call themselves analogue purists are full of it. They never do anything, sit around all day and mess about with a Jupiter 8 until you're blue in the face. The 505 will blow the jupiter 8 off the planet. It is the best allround unit roland have ever made. The 505 is so hands on. And when you get a great idea, you can lay it down and ACTUALLY make some music, rather than farting around trying to make interesting sounds that nobody gives a flying you know what about. The roland MC505 is a modern classic, and in the right hands sonic masterpieces will be made with this killer box. As for this vintage analogue VS Virtual analogue argument, don't even go there. Modern synths are vastly superior over those old unstable analogues. A Roland JP8000 for example totaly wipes out a Jupiter 8 for sonic capability. Its time we start getting over those vastly overrated & overpriced vintage synths. The MC505 & JP8000 are the modern classics, and I would take them over any old analogue anyday.

The MC505 is an awesome music production tool. Please, please PLEASE. Don't confuse it with the MC303 or even The Yamaha RM1X. They're toys in comparison. Sure the RM1X has a 16 track sequencer, but sonicaly its not happening. The MC 505 has a powerful synth engine, the bass & lead sounds you can get out of this thing are incredible especially when you get into tweaking those paramemters. I use this baby with a Korg Electribe ES-1 and that's all you need to make complete dance tracks including vocals. Mix it straight to a CD burner, track complete. The MC505 is the real deal a powerful and timeless production tool that has & will continue to outlive Rolands Groovebox phase. Everyone should have one, I'd give it 10 out of 5.
