UAD - the people who not only make some of the worlds most sought after hi end mic pres and levelling amps have announced a strategic partnership deal with Mackie for their UAD powered plugins as well as (at last!) support for the MAC OS. This should bring their unique brand of software modeled vintage EQ's,levelling amps and reverbs.
They've also added two more to their to the range of powered plugins.
Nigel Guitar Processor is a guitar processing suite, designed to model some of the most classic guitar amps ever built. We heard one of the UAD guys wig out with his guitar and were very impressed with the tone and control - it was running on PC in Nuendo.
As with Universal Audio's CS-1 channel strip, Nigel can also be divided into individual Plug-Ins for unprecedented DSP and creative efficiency. Each Nigel module includes UA's proven 'smoothing' algorithm for zipper free automation of all parameters, and Ultra Dither for maximum signal quality.
The other new plugin is the Pultec EQP-1A Program Equalizer modelled on the classic Pultec EQ.
We spoke to UADs top boffin Bill Putnam who enthused about the work they have done on the modelling side - sounds like they have some serious mathematical heavyweights in consultation
He was a little coy when we asked about the possibility of some virtual instruments + synths coming up on the Powered Plugin system - we think they're up to something and if it sounds anything like the rest of the plug-ins - we'll be in for a treat.
Nigel and Pultec 2 will be free to all registered UAD-1 users with Nigel available in february and Pultec in March. Mac versions expected later in 2002.
