Robbie Puricelli - aka Failed Muso

In this special we talk to Robbie Puricelli who's got a sideline in restoring Fairlights - the iconic computer sampling instrument of the 1980s and beyond. This particular machine used to belong to Tears For Fears Pproducer Ian Stanley, who incendentally used to live in Bath where Sonicstate is based.

Sonic T shirtSonic Tees - Available now - various colours, designs. Hoodies and mugs too

As well as bringing the cosmetics up to scratch, Robbie tackles the electronics with the help of Fairlight creator Peter Vogel, and also mods to include and SD card reader in place of all those massive 5 1/4 floppies and tapestreamers.

The restored machines also include a large curated library from all kinds of interesting sources - we take a listen to a few of the sounds - you'll recognise some of them for sure.
