Last week saw the reveal of the new ROLI Blocks - a modular controller approach to music making which interfaces with the ROLI Noise app to create a customisable and simple to operate (their words) control surface which offers the same 5D Touch experience as their higher priced Seaboard systems, but in  small format modular approach. The core of this is the Lightpad Block, plus Live Block and Loop Block. they can be configured in multiple ways to create a custom control surface.

There's lots of marketing hyperbole as usual with a new launch and ROLI have been insisting that this will completely revolutionise music creation etc. And it does look like a nifty system, and from what we understand it is possible to integrate these controllers with other Bluetooth capable devices - though details are sketchy at the moment.

We went to their product launch last week and attempted to film in the incredibly dark and blue room - our cameras struggled a bit, but we got there. Hopefully this will give you some more insight into what they are and what they can do. We talked to product manager Will and specialist Heen.

Shipping in 2-3 weeks, the ROLI Blocks are also listed in Apple's own store and will be stocked by them too - quite a coup.

Lightpad $179, Live $79, Loop $79
