I know this isnâ€™t the newsiest of news, in so far as Yamaha released the AW2400 and kid brother AW1600 in the Summer of last year, but I donâ€™t recall seeing any one running through what these dedicated hard disc recorder/digital mixers can do. So we caught up with Phil Clendenin of Yamaha US who showed us round. Just to recap:
AW2400
Is a 24 track, 24 bit recorder, with 48 digital mixing channels, 4 internal Yamaha effects processors and MY expansion bay. Combined with its 40 Gb internal hard drive, mastering effects and an internal CD writer, a large backlit LCD screen, tactile 10-key pad and 100mm motorized faders. Its unique ability to playback 24 tracks whilst simultaneously mixing a further 24 'live' inputs enables the AW2400 to fit into many different environments - from the home studio to live performance support and mixing, the AW2400 has the flexibility to suit.

I'm the AW2400 and this is the AW1600

The new 16 track, 24 bit portable recorder. Building on the success of the multi-award winning AW16G, this new model now boasts 24 bit recording, 8 combo inputs, 4 band parametric eq AND dynamics processing for each of its 36 mixer channels. As with the AW2400, the internal 40 Gb hard drive and integral CDR-W drive allow for projects to be taken from performance to final CD without the need for any other hardware. The internal 8 voice sampler can also be used in a variety of different ways - from creative to corrective applications, its easy to move, loop and re-trigger audio files.
