Amped Bitesize Review: Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive

Some filth for your bass   27-Mar-13

We are doing a bitesize review of a Boss pedal every day for a month, and today it's the turn of the Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive pedal - an overdrive pedal for bass players who want to add a bit of filth to their tone.

We're looking at 30 pedals this month, and then on the final day of March, we'll be doing a round up of our favourites. The idea being that you can quickly watch our bitesize reviews and compare one Boss pedal to another, and quickly see if you like the sound.

The Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive has a blend control for blending dry signal with distorted signal, and this is the key to finding the sweet spots of the pedal.

Rich's verdict - "Blending too much of the distortion signal into the mix on high gain modes can sound a bit fizzy, but tilt the blend back and you can find a real sweet spot that will help your bass to keep its space in the low end frequencies of the mix, whilst also adding in great high-mid range distortion.

"I think the pedal works best on punk and post-punk style tones. But you can also get those huge Muse 'Hysteria' style tones out of it pretty easily.

"It's got a very filthy sound, but the blend knob allows you to reel back the filth if you want something a bit smoother, and that's what makes it a great pedal. It comes at a good price too."

RRP - £95
