Recently posted to youtube, this video shows an electromechanical orchestrion device sponsored by Dr. Chet Udell, an award-winning electronic instrument designer and assistant professor at Oregon State University. It states that each drum actuator can play at 480 beats per minute - which is pretty speedy! Here's a MIDI Music demo from the same youtube channel:
