We spoke to Vincent Moret, the International Sales Manager for the Pro division at Focal, at Superbooth 2023, where they're demoing a full Dolby Atmos rig, 7.1.4. Focal's goal is to give synth and modular enthusiasts the chance to experiment with producing immersive audio. They're in partnership with Dolby, and David Ziegler gives tips and tricks every day at 3 pm. The technology and software are available from Dolby, and the monitors are available from any good shop, costing between $3,500 to $5,200. Focal is bringing their expertise in reproducing sound to the project.
David Ziegler, who works for Dolby, explained that the Dolby Atmos setup has speakers in front of the listener, behind the listener, and on top, bringing sound from all dimensions. The collaboration between Dolby and Focal began since Dolby Atmos became popular in the music market. The partnership is important because it's essential to work with speaker brands such as Focal to equip studios. David gives a talk every day at Superbooth at 3 pm about the software required to create the content, how it gets to the end customers, and how people can hear it at home. Dolby Atmos brings immersive audio to a mass-market audience, making it available in home cinemas, sound bars, smart speakers, cars, and even headphones.
