This video from F9 Audio's James Wiltshire gives us an insight into processing and application of Kick Drums in modern music - an essential foundational part of drums. These 10 tips come off the back of his extensive research and experience in the subject, culminating in an accompanying sample pack from his label. Nick spoke to the man himself only last month. Here's more on the kicks:
I was lucky enough to be trained not only in audio and video systems at degree level but in physics in my late teens and early 20s and I've been increasingly worried about the flood of bad information out there revolving around the bottom end.
This is the start of a deep dive on the subject of bass ( and phase ) by F9 and came about after the work on our releases F9 KICK! and F9 Origins Basses. More on this subject will follow, so please do subscribe and hit the bell to be notified of upcoming videos.
Do remember that audio is not new to the human race, we've been working with it as a species for over 100 years so please check that the information you've been picking up in forums or in videos by those who simply shout the loudest chimes correctly with known principles and engineering standards and practices.
